First things first, foam isnt cheap, especially good foam. I built my own pit for MTB use which is roughly 25ft square and around 6ft deep which size wise is pretty big and one hell of a lot of foam. I was lucky enough to obtain brand new faulty car seat foam to fill most of it. However this foam isnt the best to land in as its quite thick. You want nice soft low density foam which Tony Roache foam sell in Adelaide, on Churchill road. They sell 100kg bales for about $100. To fill a pit the size of mine with that foam alone, you would need at least 15 bales. More than likely more than that again. One of my mates jumped his mini bike into my pit. He did it twice and that was it. The first time everyone was excited to see what would happen, then we had to help get his bike out, not fun. He did it once more and everyone was well and truly over getting the bike out. So basically if youve got money for the foam and a means of getting the bike out easy and you really want to learn flips it will be fun and worth it. If all you want to do is learn feet and hand tricks just make a mulch landing or toughen up. Building a pit is a big project mate!
