Fastace As-01 , Front Wheel.

ok ok ok theres a few thread about this one , the as01 clamps are narrower then normal correct?? well they seem to be for me , anyway im gonna be getting a front brake to suit them from DHZ off ebay , they informed me that you need a different brake to suit As-01's then the As-02/03 forks , mmmk have been thinking for a while to just buy a cheap china front wheel and getting them going (i mocked up a 14" from my old 140 and was to wide had to take the fork guards off or else they Just! scraped

okk well i need a 12" for it and i dont wanna settle for a cheap one (cant find the billet china ones in 12") so..... i got this Sano front hub laying around and thought i would see if i could make that work.....its like for 20mm axle???? its got its own built in spaces so with the narrow clamps it doesn't center properly so i put on some China CNC clamps i had which made it abit more roomy , now before i go out and spend like $200 for rim and the correct spokes for the hub do you reckon this will work and mount up to the fastace brakes , ill try get a pic now.

ok as you mite no the axle with the fastace forks have a built in spacer like big bike axles , and the sano axle sits over the spacer and half hangs over the 15mm , so i was thinking of making a spacer to get it from 15mm to 20mm for the hub to fit right .....

and the other question if i get a disc on the hub will i be able to get it to work with the fastace brakes if its not lined up , is it just a matter of spacing the disc further out?? or the caliper further in/out etcc

Thanks hope you can help

You've got the legs on the wrong sides in the pics .... The plastic guards wrap around the outsides and the two allen head bolts are on the right side leg ... the disc and caliper goes on the left hand side ....

Fast Ace triple clamp spacings were originally designed to work with a CRF type hub so your Sano hub should be OK ...

You should see if you can buy bearings with 15 mm I/D's to replace the bearings in the Sano hub .... that way you could use a Fast Ace AS-01 stepped axle ...

Yeah I didn't read your first post properly ... 'just looked at the pics and assumed that the Sano hub must suit a 12 mm axle ... If it had 15 mm bearings , you'd probably only need to alter the left side spacer to get the disc lined up with the caliper ..

My AS-01's and the brake caliper suit a 210 mm disc ..

The people from Fast Ace told me that they make AS-O1's with TWO different width triple clamps ... For some strange reason most people who sell them only have sets of forks with the narrow CRF hub type clamps ... (they probably get them cheaper because they cause problems with the wider straight pull spoke hubs that come standard on most Chinese bikes and so don't sell very well) ...

People could save themselves a lot of hassle and headaches IF they only bought Fast Ace forks that have the WIDE Fast Ace clamps ...

The A'holes who sell the forks MUST know all this ... yet they fail to tell the customer ... and so ... basically RIP them off purely to make a quick buck ...

ok , i just wondering would it be worth it to go and buy the Sano spokes and a Excell 12" rim and disc etcc and make up a few spaces or just buy a complete china 12" that will most probably fit and work ??

all i would need is a spacer that goes over the 15mm bit and rise it to the 20mm bit with a little lip on the end about 22m like a built in spacer...... just dont wanna waste my moneyy hmmmm and were would i be able to get a spacer like that? im not to good at making somehting like that and wouldnt have the tools to do anyway

thanks

Well , depending on the caliper you've got , you'd have to buy a disc that's the right diameter to suit the caliper and also fits the bolt spacings in the hub ... Most likely a 210 mm disc ... Since it's probably different to a chinese disc ... your wallet will be thinned out a lot more than $20 + postage for one ... For the left side spacer you could get away with modifying a standard spacer off a bike with a 15 mm axle ...

You'd have to weigh up the costs of buying a complete chinese front wheel and disc or going with the Sano hub ... The Sano hub will be much stronger if you use Buchanan staino spokes and an Excell or whatever rim ... but IF you clench and fart just thinking about the cost... you're going to sh*t yourself when you find out the true the price ...

Well you should still look at putting that Sano hub to good use ... build up a top notch wheel over time and learn how to do your own lacing and truing while you're at it ...

Kaos50's should be able to fill you in on the cost etc ... Good wheels cost money ... but they're worth it in the long run ... plus there's the cool factor to consider ...
