issue's with spam and gmail registrations

FOR THOSE WHO DONT READ ANNOUNCMENTS!!!!!

Hello all

As some of you have obviosly noticed we are being attacked by a big chunk of spam bots
So to combat this i have made a few changes they are as follows.

I have banned the registration of users using gmail accounts. All existing accounts will still be active

I have added a human user interface question so in the short term this should help.

Now i have also reinstated the anti-spam program for all threads and post
The problem with doing this is that it will check everything so if you are finding that your posts are not getting through please notify me Via the pm system or email cinipro@gmail.com

i hope this helps untill we can get some updates done and a few other things happening

sorry in advance for any inconvenience caused

rgds.... coolmodee01

You could try restricting it to 1 account per IP address. And if another family member happens to want another account off the same computer then they could email you.

But once you ban the offending account they must be creating another in order to spam? Ahhh well, IP bans won't to much. If they have time to spam I am guessing they have time to find out what a proxy is. A capcha should do the trick stopping automated login/account creation.

Spam these days is mainly posted using spambot programs and they are very smart programs which register and post automatically. They use open proxies and can get around CAPTCHAs. These programs can even post up to 1100 links in about 15 minutes on a number of forums.

We have got it sorted for now and we will keep doing all we can to stop them from registering.

These spambot programs have managed to get past the Hotmail security as well so they need to sort out there registration process too.
