| | | 250cc+ for XR frame
Chasing a 250cc or bigger motor for a Roller I am picking up tuesday. Its an XR250 but im open to suggestions if you have a slightly larger engine.
Id prefer a Good condition second hand engine(or complete bike if its cheap) I beleive the engine im looking for is either the Loncin 250 or the Zonghsen 250 from either the Atomik Fury or the MotoX 250. One being water cooled, the other air.
If you know of another motor that is suitable please feel free to give some suggestions, or if you know of someone who has done a similar swap with a larger capacity China into a jap frame, would love some opinions or techincal pointers.
Will enfevour to keep the thread updated as to any changes and will include some pictures when possible.
Im located in Victoria, and am willing to travel within the state for the right item. looking to spend around $500 or so.

im underging a similair project atm with an xr250 but im only using a china 250 motor its pain in the arse to make all the brackets to suit and to notch the frame a little i dont think a 400 will fit into the xr250 as tehre fairly small

geomwhat? lol.. hahaha id have failed.. hopeles at maths. lol..
seen there was an aussie gixxer cart on the 'fleebay' the other day.. around the 2500 mark.. would be interesting fun.. for a while.. but then where to go after that!
Rosie, im interested as to what engine you sourced and how you are going with things. I figured it would be a case of new mounts, like I said I havnt actually recieved the bike yet, and am just doing some research into how difficult/easy its going to be.. Im hoping if it all goes ok bracketry wise, then it should be a good score for under the 1k mark.. Xr's frame and geometery, with the bonus of Japanese engineering, but with the reliability engine wise(keep maintence upto scratch methodically..) no synthetic oils, no skimping on services, replacing crappy bolts and weak lines.. you know the jist im sure.
If you can throw a few pictures into the thread, as im bound to use them as referance material, if thats ok with you!
Cheers for the input fellas

i have done a zongshen 250 into a xl/xr 250 frame is seems to push my bike along well. as for making up the mounts was it pretty easy using just a piece of cardboard for a template a 6" grinder and my drill press. i used 5mm steel plate for my mounts and purchased a rear wheel from triplewon on ebay so to match chain pitch. it all went together pretty easy after i did the wiring, we have been using it every weekend for the last 2 months now and it hasnt missed a beat
